Chairman Patrick Brockie, on behalf of Infrastructure NZ, is delighted to host a private breakfast - Are You Future Ready for 2050?

As Auckland strives to be the “World’s Most Liveable City” by 2040, we shine a spotlight on the future impacts of the mega-trends surrounding Climate, Society, Resources and Technology.

  • Auckland is committed to 40 per cent emissions reduction by 2040. Is that achievable when the majority of the city’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions are from stationary energy generation and transport?
  • Sea levels are forecast to rise by 30cms by 2050 or significantly sooner if the West Antarctic ice shelf melts at current rates. Are we designing future assets with that in mind?
  • Auckland’s population will increase by 39% by 2043. Are policy makers, agencies and industry considering changes in demographic and health and well-being trends?
  • The water network will be expanded to supply an additional 195,000 homes during the next decade. Are we able to collectively respond to that demand without compromising the reliably, safety, quality and efficiency of the water supply?
  • After the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes, one of the key lessons was ensuring the provision of access to public Wi-Fi. Have we got adequate technology infrastructure in place to meet the needs of the swelling population, as well as to respond well to more frequent natural disasters?
We invite you to hear from David Symons, Director at WSP in London, about the work he is undertaking with the public and private sectors to help them respond to the mega-trends, specifically in relation to resilient communities, business growth and risk management. David will showcase best-practice examples from Shell and Lendlease, and various leading transport agencies and municipal councils.
