Infrastructure New Zealand, in partnership with sponsor Harrison Grierson, are pleased to invite you to our final Emerging Talent Network event for 2018: "Homelessness Hackathon". For those who have not been involved in a ‘hackathon’, it is an interactive, competitive, high speed workshop where small groups of people work on a problem, generating innovative, quick fire solutions, to pitch to a panel of judges.
A recent homeless census established that over 800 people were sleeping rough in Auckland. In addition to those on the street, another 2874 people, including 1299 children were in temporary and emergency accommodation.
Please join the Emerging Talent Network for a briefing on homelessness from our expert panel: Moira Lawler (Lifewise), Mel Wall (University of Auckland), Glen Cornelius (Harrison Grierson), and Kimberly Leuila (Housing New Zealand). Following the briefing, a challenge will be issued by Hackathon Facilitator Craig Gillett (Harrison Grierson) and groups will be established to develop quick fire solutions, and pitch them to the panel. The winning group will receive a Britomart Black Gift Card to the value of $300, redeemable at any listed Britomart hospitality venue.
Kindly sponsored by Harrison Grierson, the evening will conclude with networking and refreshments at their new offices in Parnell.
In the spirit of Christmas, each attendee is requested to bring a small, unwrapped gift (but with original boxes or packaging) to the value of $15 - $20 to donate to Lifewise. Lifewise has informed us they are in particular need of the following items:
- Christmas Gifts for boys or girls aged 5-8, 10-12 and 13+
- Moving In Packs for a new home including toilet paper, toothpaste, shower gel, teabags, biscuits
- Personal Hygiene Packs for homeless people - eg could include female toiletries, toothbrush, wipes, small bottles shampoo etc
On arrival please deposit your gift into the boxes provided at the event venue. We will present these gifts to the CEO of Lifewise at the conclusion of the evening.
