Event OverviewThe Womens’ Infrastructure Network is delighted to invite you to our annual Christmas Charity Breakfast. Focusing on Inclusion in Infrastructure, this breakfast event will look at the additional challenges women working in the infrastructure sector with a disability face, and how we can make the industry more inclusive for everyone.
Speaking from personal experience, Hanin Rajeh and Paige Boyed will share their experiences and offer some suggestions on how the industry can be more accepting and supportive to workers with different abilities. Paige notes ‘In a very male and able-bodied dominant sector, being a minority in both of those aspects can be incredibly overwhelming at times. Disability seems to be a word that makes many people feel uncomfortable which is something that needs to change. It’s not a dirty word and the more people come to terms with that the more inclusive and accepting our work environment will be. The disabled community is so varied and so large with people from all different walks of life and backgrounds. Therefore, it’s so important to have diversity within the sector so people from lived experiences can help educate others and make a more inclusive environment for everyone.
Every year WIN chooses a different charity to support at Christmas time. This year, we have selected Downlights, a NZ owned, certified social enterprise that manufactures luxury candles, diffusers and other fragranced products. Downlights employs young adults with Down syndrome and intellectual or learning disabilities, and supports their learning and development with a variety of workplace skills. Jennifer Del Bel, Managing Director of Downlights, plus two members of her team, Emma and Jack, will join us to share their story.
CostThe cost to attend is $20 per person, which will include a mini Downlights candle, and a networking breakfast, thanks to sponsors, GHD. All funds will go to Downlights.
For those WIN members who cannot attend the breakfast in person, and would like to support Downlights, see here for more information about the social enterprise and here to order their products online.
