Delegation to the U.S. (04 Apr 2018)

New Zealand has a growth challenge. Weak housing supply, high house prices and deteriorating transport performance are undermining living standards and economic prosperity. Changes are required to the way we plan, fund and deliver infrastructure and housing to meet growth.

The United States is comprised of some 50 entities, each with its own unique approach to growth and its own set of tools. Many of these states and cities are at similar stages of their development to New Zealand cities. Some appear to be managing growth well, some less well.

What is working, what is not and what can New Zealand learn?

In April 2017, Infrastructure New Zealand will lead a senior delegation of around 35 public and private sector infrastructure leaders to four growing American cities: Portland, Denver, Dallas and Houston. The objective will be to understand what growth challenges each city and state is facing and how authorities are responding.
